Ground-Motion Evaluation of Hybrid Seismic Velocity Models

چکیده
Abstract Cost-effective strategies for enhancing seismic velocity models are an active research topic. The recently developed hybridization technique shows promise in improving used deterministic earthquake hazard evaluation. We augment the results of Ajala and Persaud (2021) by exploring other hybrid generated using 13 sets embedding parameters—taper widths subvolumes—and summarize their effect on waveform predictions up to a minimum period 2 s. Our introduce notion compatibility as consideration showing that same basin embedded into two different regional can produce notably outcomes. In contrast most our Harvard better matching ground motions, only one Southern California Earthquake Center model gives closer match waveforms. Similar obtained at higher frequencies; however, improvements due reduced. A potential explanation these may be limited high spatial frequencies travel time tomography >5–6 s wavefield-dominated adjoint models. Although strongly tapered compatible tend results, we find instances even with merging artifacts.

Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Deaggregation of Ground Motion Prediction Models
Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) combines the probabilities of all earthquake scenarios with different magnitudes and distances with predictions of resulting ground motion intensity, in order to compute seismic hazard at a site. PSHA also incorporates uncertainties in ground motion predictions, by considering multiple Ground Motion Prediction ("attenuation") Models (GMPMs). Current ...
متن کاملNonstationary Models of Seismic Ground Acceleration
A new nonstationary model is applied to represent seismic ground acceleration records. The model can be obtained by modulating both the amplitude and the frequency of a stationary process. It is not included in the class of oscillatory processes. Accelerograms recorded during the 1985 Michoacan earthquake in Mexico City are used to calibrate and evaluate the usefulness of the proposed and other...
متن کاملSeismic Amplification of Peak Ground Acceleration, Velocity, and Displacement by Two-Dimensional Hills
There are valuable investigations on the amplification effects of the topography on the seismic response in the frequency domain; however, a question is that how one can estimate the amplification of time domain peak ground acceleration (PGA), peak ground velocity (PGV), and peak ground displacement (PGD) over the topographic structures. In this study, the numerical approach has been used for t...
متن کاملInfluence of Ground Motion Duration on the Structural Response at Multiple Seismic Intensity Levels
This paper aims to investigate the effects of motion duration on the structural seismic demands, seeking potential correlations between motion durations and structural responses at several seismic intensity levels. Three seismic intensity levels with 100years, 475years, and 2475years earthquake return periods (RPs) are first considered for correlation computations. Spectrally matched ground mot...
متن کاملEffect of Scarp Topography on Seismic Ground Motion
Abstract—Local irregular topography has a great impact on earthquake ground motion. For scarp topography, using numerical simulation method, the influence extent and scope of the scarp terrain on scarp's upside and downside ground motion are discussed in case of different vertical incident SV waves. The results show that: (1) The amplification factor of scarp's upside region is greater than tha...
